11 Best Detox Water Recipes to Cleanse Your Body and Burn Fat

Pursuing a more natural lifestyle, along with maintaining healthy weight goals, is a general theme of my life. One critical concern of mine is the constant barrage of toxins and chemicals that my body faces each day just from normal activities (like eating–and even breathing!).

Ridding our bodies of those extra toxins not only allows us to be healthier, but we can shed extra pounds in the process. Most health authorities suggest that we drink 8 glasses of water a day in order to flush our systems (Source). With that in mind, I’ve created a list of recipes to provide a quick and easy way to give your body an extra boost, while keeping things interesting for your taste buds.

 

#1 Cucumber Detox Fat-Burning Water

As a diuretic, cucumber helps to rid the body of excess fluids, which can help you to drop extra water weight very quickly. (Source)

Also included in this recipe are citrus fruits, helping with the burning of fat and flushing of toxins. Grapefruit is not a magic pill, but ingesting it regularly may help to burn fat (Source) while lemon and lime are both provide high quantities of Vitamin C which promotes detoxification as well as reducing inflammation (Source).

Adding a bit of mint for flavor and sweetness (without sugar!) provides a delicious, refreshing beverage you can drink throughout the day. One eight ounce glass contains only seven calories, 1 gram of carbs, and a whopping 11% of your daily Vitamin C.

Cucumber water

1 gallon filtered water

1 sliced cucumber

1 sliced grapefruit

1 sliced lemon

1 sliced lime

4-5 leaves of fresh mint


Combine ingredients and chill in refrigerator for at least one hour. Stays fresh for up to 24 hours—the acid in citrus fruits will begin to break down after that time period.

 

#2 Apple Cinnamon Detox Water to Burn Calories

Because apples can make the stomach feel as if it is full for longer periods of time, apples are a perfect complement in weight loss efforts. (Source)

Mixing cinnamon with apples not only provides an excellent flavor, but the spice is also known to increase the metabolism, burn calories, lower bad cholesterol, and minimize food cravings while lowering blood sugar levels (Source). This drink actually has no calories, so enjoy it to your heart’s content!

 

1 pitcher filtered water

1-2 thinly sliced apple

1 stick of cinnamon (powdered cinnamon makes the water cloudy and thick)

Place in bottom of pitcher, cover with two cups of ice and then fill pitcher with filtered water. Allow to sit in refrigerator for at least 1 hour. Serve with a few slices of apple in your cup. When the pitcher is empty, simply leave apples and cinnamon and re-fill with water one to two more times.

 

#3 Ginger Mango Metabolism Boosting Water

Mango is not only a tasty tropical fruit, but it can give your metabolism a super-strong boost (Source). Ginger root is another ingredient which allows the body to burn calories up to 20% faster (Source) with its thermogenic effect, meaning that the calories you eat are used up more quickly and your body can get started on burning up extra fat. Ginger has plenty of other benefits for your health as well, including help with digestion, managing of glucose levels, absorption of nutrients, and reducing inflammation. (Source)

1 gallon filtered water

1 cup fresh mango, chopped (or frozen works just as well)

1 inch fresh ginger root (powdered ginger will cloud and clump in the water)

Peel ginger and cut into approximately four slices. Add ginger slices and mango to water. Add 2-3 cups of ice and fill with water. All to sit in refrigerator for at least 1 hour. Stays fresh in refrigerator for 24 hours.

The gel harvested fresh from an aloe plant is packed full of nutrition that easily absorbs into the bloodstream, helps with digestion, is chock full of antioxidants, lowers blood sugar, and relieves fatigue (Source). We already know that lemons can flush out toxins and they are full of vitamins, plus lemon juice helps to produce digestive juices, replenishes body salt after exercise, and gives the liver a boost—all of which can aid in weight loss (Source). In this recipe, the lemon juice helps to give the aloe a more balanced flavor as well.

 

1 glass filtered water

1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice

1 tablespoon gel from aloe vera leaf (simply cut a slit in the leaf and drain out the gel—it will rejuvenate!)

1 gallon filtered water

1 sliced cucumber

1 sliced lemon

2-3 sprigs fresh mint

 

#6 Belly Busting Blueberry Lavender Water

Known as a superfood for their rich anti-oxidants and vitamins, blueberries offer a great many health benefits specifically their ability to burn fat (Source). And although we don’t often think of lavender as a food, it is calorie free that offers relief from an upset stomach (Source). Plus, it gives the blueberries a fresh and interesting flavor boost.

1 gallon filtered water

½ pint blueberries

Pinch of dried lavender flowers

Mix berries and lavender together in water. Cover with ice and chill in refrigerator for at least an hour. For a tasty alternative that adds an additional kick of Vitamin C, try adding a sliced orange to the mix. Serves eight. Stays fresh for 24 hours.

 

#7 Fruity Fresh Detoxifying Water

Watermelon works well as a diuretic to promote health urinary tract function and detoxifying (Source) while raspberries contain powerful antioxidants as well as fiber, to keep your digestive system moving (Source).

Because of its low glycemic index of only 25, studies have shown that grapefruit may help contribute to weight loss while giving you a boost to your detox routine with its high levels of vitamin C (Source).

1 gallon filtered water

1 handful raspberries

1 cup watermelon cubes

1 grapefruit, peeled

1 cucumber, sliced

1 pear, sliced

2-3 springs fresh mint

Plus, the mint’s ability to aid with digestion, in addition to its status as an antioxidant, make it an important part of this detox water (Source).

 

½ gallon water

1 sliced orange

Large handful blueberries

5-10 fresh mint leaves

Mix ingredients together, add ice on top, and chill in refrigerator for at least an hour. Stays fresh for 24 hours.

#10 Blackberry Peach Cobbler Colon Cleansing Water

You know how they say that the darker a fruit is, the more vitamins it contains? Well, you really can’t get much darker than blackberries! These things are loaded with antioxidant compounds which fight against free radicals in your body and may even help to prevent cancer (Source). On the peachier side, this water offers various vitamins and minerals, as well as containing high fiber which aids in controlling weight and removing excess toxins from the colon. (Source) A bit of sweetener brings out the flavor as if you’re enjoying your favorite peach/blackberry dessert. Of course, this also adds calories so keep the honey to a minimum.

 

½ gallon filtered water

1 cup blackberries

1 sliced peach

Honey or sugar to taste

Add fruit to water and place 2 cups of ice on top. Chill in refrigerator for at least one hour. Stays fresh for 24 hours.

 

#11 Apple Cider Vinegar Balancing Detox Drink

Apple Cider Vinegar

Known for cleaning out the system naturally, Apple Cider Vinegar is a key element in this beverage. Its ability to balance out the acid/alkaline levels in the body make it critical for detoxification and weight loss efforts. It can also act as an appetite suppressant as well as lower the insulin levels (Source).

A recent study has shown that people who drink a glass of water with a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar just prior to eating a meal had lower blood glucose levels (Study).

Because some people don’t prefer the taste of apple cider vinegar, the other ingredients are mostly to help with that. But as we learned previously, the lemon juice and cinnamon are also helpful detoxifiers. The honey does add quite a hefty number of calories to this drink (over 200!), so if you can stand the taste without it and are trying to lose weight, then see if you can reduce the amount or eliminate it altogether.

 

12 ounces filtered water

4 tablespoons raw apple cider vinegar

4 tablespoons lemon juice

4 tablespoons raw honey

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Mix together and enjoy! If you are trying to break a carbonated beverage habit, try making this drink with sparkling mineral water (but NOT tonic water as it contains high amounts of sodium).
